Jimbocho Booktown

The neighbourhood of Jimbocho is one of my favourite places for a field trip in Tokyo. Jimbocho is basically a 1km long alignment of used books stores. You can find a bit of everything there, from cheap magazines to pricey collectables a hundred years old. When I visit I mainly look for old books cheap enough to cut up for mail art and the such. I never came home empty handed, but there are good days and bad days, sometimes depending on what the shop keepers are willing to sell you (a bit of a tricky one for me, that's why I only go every six months or so). I will show you last week's catch at Jimbocho in a future blog.

  4. Yes, come to Jimbocho, both of you, we'll hunt for treasures. The photo second from bottom is the very last one of the street (my favourite one), it's the most messy one and where I usually buy the the loose book covers. The labels are the titles and authors, sometimes additional information if they are special editions, unique, or copies etc..

  5. Looks absolutely marvellous :-) - and like it would be my favourite too. I hope someone waters the post plants? They look like they're gasping!

  8. mine aren't gasping :-)) - well not today - it rained... otherwise they're left to their own devices - poor things imagine someone WILLING them to be small :-(. The fascinating thing - I KNOW that the minute I put my trees into the ground they will grow to be giants - their hearts are THAT BIG!!! XXX
